WARHEADS

WARHEADS was my response to the Iraq War. As it was obvious that this was going to be a lengthy conflict, and not just a 43 day Kuwait style war, my response was to leave the states for good. But my husband would have none of that. My only alternative was to make art...a lot of it! I already had a series that expressed my disdain for press censorship ("Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came") , so how was I going to follow up on that? I decided to use the same images ( always recycle) but I had to somehow express the increased violence that a prolonged war would signify. I tried tearing prints, using razor  blades, crumpling prints...but then I tried bleach. Like magic, on a C-print, the bleached areas gave me the same colors of fire...white, yellow, orange and red.  I had my technique! Later a friend asked if he could publish a book, and I consented. The prints traveled all over the USA, as shows protested the war. The book is now a collectible, and more relevant than ever, now that fake news is so real!
